This exhibit features the Pacific Six Fingered Threadfin (known locally as “moi”),
an esteemed food fish. Once raised in Hawaiian fishponds as food exclusively for the royalty,
the “moi” has had an important role in aquaculture from past to present. To meet the present day
demands for this popular foodfish, efforts have been made by State and private companies to replenish and supplement the wild stock populations through active breeding and reintroduction programs. The fish we have on display were captive bred by Anuenue Fisheries, State of Hawaii.
