10 a.m. – Shark hat contest.
Ocean Literacy Day at the Waikiki Aquarium. Did you know that sharks are known for having up to fifteen rows of teeth in each jaw? Come and learn more trivia at the Waikiki Aquarium’s annual Ocean Literacy Day. This year’s shark-themed event will include celebrity storytelling about the ocean and marine life, presentations by experts about shark biology and behavior, and a special guest appearance by Kimo and Olina, Diamond Bakery costume characters. Guests are also encouraged to participate in a shark hat contest, a special LEGO build, and can enjoy sidewalk chalk art, take-home arts and crafts, and a free toothbrush.
The event is supported by Aqua Hospitality, California Pizza Kitchen, Hawaii Dental Service, Ben Franklin Crafts, Na Pua Noeau, Diamond Bakery and National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration.
Activities are included with Aquarium admission. Daily admission is $6 for local residents, active duty military with ID, students with ID and senior citizens; $4 for youths ages 13-17 and persons with disabilities; $2 for juniors ages 5 - 12; and free for children 4 and under and Friends of Waikiki Aquarium members.
